The Denver Dry Goods Building was originally built in 1888 as a three-story structure on a quarter block in the downtown Denver urban core.

Over the next 40 years, three major additions to the building increased its size to approximately 330,000 square feet in a 6-story building that spans an entire city block. In 1916, the building was the largest department store west of Chicago.
